Scripture

2 Peter 1:3-4

3According as his divine power hath given unto us all things that pertain unto life and godliness, through the knowledge of him that hath called us to glory and virtue: 4Whereby are given unto us exceeding great and precious promises: that by these ye might be partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust.

Say to the Mountain

22And Jesus answering saith unto them, Have faith in God. 23For verily I say unto you, That whosoever shall say unto this mountain, Be thou removed, and be thou cast into the sea; and shall not doubt in his heart, but shall believe that those things which he saith shall come to pass; he shall have whatsoever he saith. 24Therefore I say unto you, What things soever ye desire, when ye pray, believe that ye receive them, and ye shall have them.

I want to start a series on Mark 11:22-24. In this series I will be examining the simple yet profound truths that are to be found in this passage of scripture. It teaches us how Jesus was able to accomplish everything he did during his ministry.

Any time Jesus says "verily" or "truly, truly," we need pay attention. It is an indicator that Christ is about to tell us something important and some literal truth. In these two verses we are given some important insights into how Jesus accomplished the signs, wonders and miracles during his ministry while on the earth.

"And Jesus answering saith unto them, Have faith in God." - Mark 11:22

In verse 22 we are told to have faith in God. Now, if you raised in the church as I was, there is a tendency to skim over this statement; as it is a phrase often used among church goers. If, however, we take the time to examine this simple sentence, we find an important concept being communicated; Trust the promises of God.

What are the promises of God? For if I am to trust in His promises, I need to know what they are. Following is a short list of some of God's promises. I am not going to do a full study of his promises at this time. However, this list should get you started:

  • Psalm 91 - Health, long life, protection from disaster, protections from enemies and prosperity.
  • Deuteronomy 8:18 - The power to create wealth
  • 2 Peter 1:3 - We've been given all things that pertain to life and godliness.

Remember! The spoken words of God are a promise!
